A man accused of killing two women on Christmas Day waived his right to a preliminary hearing Tuesday in San Luis Obispo Superior Court.
Andrew Downs was in court Tuesday for a pre-preliminary hearing. He’s accused of fatally shooting sisters Kathy Yeager and Beverly Reilly at a home in Santa Margarita on Dec. 25.
Downs’ attorney, Matt Guerrero, waived the right to the preliminary hearing in an agreement with prosecutor Dave Pomeroy.
By doing so, Guerrero is declining to contest that sufficient evidence exists to bring the case to trial.
The next hearing in the case will be an arraignment May 31 in Judge John Trice’s courtroom.
