The criminal case against a 23-year-old Santa Maria man accused of kidnapping and assaulting a 17-year-old Arroyo Grande High School student in May will proceed to trial.
Fernando Frias was in court today for a preliminary hearing related to an alleged attack on the teenager, who testified that she feared for her life.
He’s also accused of the attempted kidnapping of a 12-year-old girl earlier in the day on May 26.
Judge Barry LaBarbera ruled that sufficient evidence had been presented to move the case forward on eight charges filed by prosecutors.

Frias has pleaded not guilty.
