A Washington state man was arrested Thursday in connection with what the Sheriff’s Department said was a marijuana-growing operation in the North County.
Luis Mendoza-Castaneda, 18, was allegedly recruited to tend to the operation, which was based off Highway 58 in rural Simmler. Deputies in bullet-resistant vehicles raided the alleged operation Thursday morning and seized 128 marijuana plants weighing 1,950 pounds, according to the department.
Deputies said one man holding a .308 caliber rifle appeared to be guarding the operation when they arrived.
Mendoza-Castaneda was arrested on suspicion of cultivation of marijuana for sale and an immigration and customs holds. He was taken to County Jail on $50,000 bail.
