The Coast Union boys soccer squad closed out the regular season with a 4-1 win at Orcutt on Friday, Feb. 6. Ricky Abitia collected two goals, while Daniel Pena and Fidel Figueroa added one each.
Head coach Luis Plasencia said his team moved the ball very well, creating a “very motivating game by controlling the ball in the midfield.” Orcutt scored first Friday, and Plasencia said that score created incentive for his Broncos as they fought back and went ahead soon afterward.
The team concluded the regular season with an 11-8-1 record, and Plasencia is hoping for a spot in the playoffs. Eleven wins is “not bad for a younger team,” the coach explained. Some other high school soccer teams haven’t completed their seasons, and Plasencia said he should know soon whether his team gets to continue into CIF playoffs.
Coast Union 3, Orcutt Academy 2
Coast Union’s girls soccer team concluded the regular season with a 3-2 victory at Orcutt Academy on Friday, Feb. 6. Two goals by Cammie Tatham, one by Ani Corbet and two assists by Patty Bucio led the Lady Broncos to victory.
Regarding a possible playoff opportunity, head coach Tamara Corbet said her team, an independent with a 9-6-2 record, has met “certain standards” in order to qualify for CIF post-season play. Coast Union Athletic Director Bill Clough is going through the process of submitting an application for the team to compete in the CIF playoffs.
It may be next Monday before both the boys and girls soccer teams learn whether they have made the playoffs, Corbet explained.
