The Coast Union Bronco boys soccer team completed a rather disappointing soccer season on the upswing, narrowly defeating the Templeton Eagles 1-0 on Thursday, Feb. 13, in Templeton. The lone goal was scored by Rigoberto Quintero on an assist by Mario Leon.
Head Coach Luis Plasencia said he got the most out of his players, but he lost key players because of “troubles and grades.”
“We had a good system for the team in the beginning of the season,” the coach explained. “Some things happened that changed the whole concept, but we were working together OK with the players we had, then we lost some more players.”
In the first quarter, Plasencia lost five players due to ineligibility and “towards the end of the season we lost another six players,” some due to grades and others due to violations of school rules, the coach explained.
Never miss a local story.
The coach ends the season with the hope that “the younger players can learn from what happened to the older players this year. Maybe that will help them next year. All I can be is a coach, but I try to help them stay out of trouble.”
