A bumper crop of great food, local wine, craft beers, live music and — of course — delightful scarecrows will highlight the fifth annual Harvest Market, sponsored by the Cambria Historical Society.
Formerly dubbed the Cambria Harvest Festival, the Harvest Market takes place from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 12, at its usual location in the gardens of the Cambria Historical Museum and spreading throughout East Village. (For more information, go to cambriahistoricalsociety.com.)
The museum is at the corner of Burton Drive and Center Street. Other Harvest Market locations include the Cinnabar patio, Wise Owl, Squibb House, Burton Inn, Wine : Taste, Linn’s Easy As Pie, Olallieberry Inn and more.
“We have so many wonderful vendors and such fabulous music this year that we decided to branch out to other special spots around town,” said the market’s organizer, Penny Church. “Wherever you look, there will be something for everyone.”
Church and her committee of Cambria Historical Society volunteers have lined up an impressive playlist of talent. Returning this year is the popular SLO Pokes acoustic group, performing lively bluegrass, country, folk and fiddle music from noon to 4 p.m. at the museum. Others offering outstanding entertainment are the Mudskippers, Loren Radis, Marc Irving Weber and Bob Benjamin, as well as a few surprises.
Wineries from the Pacific Coast Wine Trail and Cutruzzola Vineyards will be pouring at the Squibb House patio. Wine : Taste will offer a variety of vintages on the shop’s patio. Craft brews from the Cambria Beer Co. and Cambria Ale House will be on tap in the museum backyard, ready to accompany Soto’s Market barbecue, pizza from JJ’s and prize-winning chili by Jim Loveless.
Olive oils, savory tapenades, breads, jams and other products grown and produced in Cambria by Bassetti Vineyards will be sold in front of the Squibb House.
Other offerings at various locations include Fusano California olives, shrimp gumbo with homemade croutons by personal chef Jeanne Brodie and hot dogs with mango, papaya and coconut from the Tropic food truck. Linn’s Farm and the Williams Ranch will have produce for sale.
Save room for dessert. Harmony Café’s Giovanni Grillenzoni will scoop authentic Italian gelato, and Village Bean will serve incredibly decadent Doc Burnstein’s ice cream. Also ready to tempt you: SLO Pop popcorn, kettle corn and cotton candy; A Matter of Taste’s shortbread tarts and homemade granola; Olallieberry Inn pastries; Paso Almonds; and Native Daughters root beer floats.
OK, so there’s more to life than food and drink. The market will also feature ceramics, antiques, vintage clothing, hand-milled soaps, soy candles, plants and more. Author Betty Winter will be at the museum to sign her new children’s book, “A Pumpkin for Max,” and piles of pumpkins will be ready for kids to decorate.
The Harvest Market is part of the four-day Cambria Scarecrows Harvest Weekend, Oct. 11-14.
The weekend kicks off with a pie-baking contest at Cambria’s Friday Farmers Market.
Entry forms are online, and bakers are encouraged to enter to win $100 gift certificates.
Tickets to the Sunday Vine Dining Winemaker Dinner and the Monday Cambria Farm Tour are sold out.
