The San Simeon Chamber of Commerce Visitor Center has a new coat of paint, new website and Facebook page, and new interpretive exhibits.
With funding from the County Business Improvement District (CBID), the center hired a part-time coordinator and added new volunteers. The office was recently remodeled to include a wheelchair-accessible restroom.
The freshly painted interior is bright and cheerful, and the walls are covered with exhibit panels of area attractions, including Hearst Castle State Historical Monument, Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary, Piedras Blancas Light Station, California Coastal National Monument and the Piedras Blancas Elephant Seal rookery.
“It’s good to have another place to send our guests where they can get accurate information about local attractions,” said Paul Panchal, owner of the Silver Surf and Sea Breeze motels.
Never miss a local story.
Future plans include interactive video exhibits and a Web-based membership campaign.
The San Simeon Visitor Center received nearly 10,000 visitors in 2014. In preparation for another busy summer, the center is seeking volunteers.
Connie Friend, volunteer since 2002 said, “In the 13 years I’ve volunteered here, I’ve met people from all around the world. The warmth and friendship I feel has added years to my life. Everybody touches you in a different way. There’s no other way to say it, it’s magical. It makes me want to keep truckin’!”
The San Simeon Visitor Center is open Monday through Thursday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Friday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at 250 San Simeon Ave., Suite 3A.
Plans include adding weekend hours.
