Amid stepped-up efforts to prepare for and fend off a potentially catastrophic fire, Cambrians got some good news Thursday: the Fire Department has secured a $60,477 federal grant.
The money, earmarked for the Cambria Fire Department by the Department of Homeland Security, was announced in a news release by Rep. Lois Capps, D-Santa Barbara.
The Assistance to Firefighters Grant will provide funds for self-contained breathing apparatus equipment, which provides firefighters with breathable air amid hazardous conditions.
“This award will be used to replace old and malfunctioning SCBA that have reached the end of their service life,” Cambria Fire Chief Mark Miller said in the news release. “The funding comes at a critical time for the community of Cambria with the recent fire and water emergency declarations. Having properly functioning SCBA to effect rapid search and rescue is a critical component to civilian and firefighter safety.”
