A Calstar 7 helicopter is tentatively scheduled to land near the Rodeo Grounds Road entrance of Fiscalini Ranch Preserve about 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 20.
The helicopter is to be part of the mandatory monthly training session for the Cambria Fire Department and Cal Fire firefighters, according to fire Capt. Johnathan Gibson, Cambria Fire Department’s training officer. He said Cambria Community Healthcare District staffers also have been invited to participate.
Fire Chief Mark Miller said the training is designed to familiarize firefighters with the helicopter and teach them how to be safe when near it.
They will learn (or be reminded) how to approach the helicopter when the rotor is in motion, how to load a patient into the rotorcraft and how to follow other safety protocols.
Members of the public are welcome to observe from a safe distance but are asked to stay at least 300 feet away to avoid the rotor backwash of dust and debris.
Gibson said other aspects of the training session are expected to include an advanced life-support refresher course and auto-extraction exercises at the fire station.
