No injuries were reported after a one-car accident in Cambria’s West Village about 11 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 6, but side structures and landscaping in front of some businesses on the 700 block of Main Street were damaged or destroyed.
According to CHP Officer Bill Long, Jennifer Bell, 34, of Cambria reported swerving her 2012 GMC Yukon to miss a deer. The vehicle went up onto the sidewalk, wiped out a staircase railing at Artifacts gallery, tore up plantings in front of the Cambria Chamber of Commerce, hit a patio-cover structure and two box planters at Cambria Coffee Roasting Company and clipped a couple of kiosks for periodicals.
Long said investigators do not believe that alcohol or drug use was a factor.
While the CHP report notes that the Yukon had “major damage,” Long said it was driven away from the scene.
The deer apparently escaped unscathed. Some business owners in the area confirm that deer have been browsing and munching on plantings nearby, mostly at night.
