It only took a few minutes May 1 for the Cambria Community Healthcare District to make official its hiring of a new administrator, effective immediately, at $70,000 a year for a 32-hour week.
In a vote cast moments after the special meeting was called to order (nobody from the audience opted to speak during the public comment period), the Board of Trustees unanimously approved hiring Robert Sayers of Arroyo Grande.
Until recently, he and wife Lynn owned Medical Management Strategies in San Luis Obispo, which provides “medical billing, practice management consulting and technology solutions,” according to the website at http://mmsofslo.com/about. They recently sold the firm.

Prior to his nearly two decades managing that company, Robert Sayers was chief financial officer for Golden Health Systems/Pleasant Valley Hospital in Camarillo from August 1975 to November 1993.
He told the trustees “I’m looking forward to working with the board and staff,” which provide “great services to the community of Cambria” and beyond. He said he’d been involved in the healthcare field for his entire career.
According to a summary Sayers provided to the district, he has been “involved in several types of healthcare organizations over those years, including other district healthcare organizations, hospitals and physician organizations. His background always has been focused on the finance and management of healthcare companies, holding positions of CFO and CEO. He earned a BA degree in business administration from Rutgers University, Rutgers College, and an MBA from California Lutheran University.”
The new administrator’s contract also includes: vacation, holiday, sick leave and administrative leave; benefits, including retirement, medical and dental coverage and a $50,000 life insurance policy; reimbursement for the use of a private vehicle; and general expenses.
