An improv performance, bake sale and silent auction Saturday in Cambria will help raise funds for a 12-year-old girl trying to recover from complications from a ruptured appendix.
Since mid-January, doctors have been trying to cure Sheridyn Murray of raging infections and other problems that apparently are side effects of the surgery and the appendicitis. The already slender seventh-grader has lost 15 pounds in a few weeks, according to her mother, Sherri Murray.
Sheridyn is a member of the Santa Lucia Middle School IMPROVables performance group, part of the YMCA after-school program. Its coach, Shawna Volpa, wanted to help the Murray family defray costs from two hospital stays and massive doses of antibiotics to combat infection. The family has limited health insurance.
So the improv team will perform during a fundraiser from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Saturday, March 29, at the Joslyn Recreation Center, 950 Main St., Cambria. Some of Sheridyn’s poetry will be read and some of her artwork will be on display. Admission is free. Donations are accepted.
Sheridyn’s 26-year-old sister, Elissa Murray of Cambria, has also launched a fundraising campaign at www.gofundme.com/7iz3jo.
The preteen’s father, Tom Murrray, is a Coast Union High School graduate. Her grandparents are longtime Cambrians Gary and Sandy Farrar.
