Former Morro Bay City Attorney Robert Schultz resigned via email Wednesday as contract attorney for San Simeon Community Services District, a post he held for more than a decade.
Schultz accepted a position earlier this week as town attorney for Los Gatos, a Santa Clara County town of about 30,000 residents.
In November, a three-person majority of the Morro Bay City Council terminated Schultz without cause from the city attorney post he’d held there since 1997. His last day on that job was Nov. 15. No reason for the termination was given. After negotiations, Schultz’s departure was handled as a resignation.
At Schultz’s request, his San Simeon resignation will be on the closed-session agenda at 5 p.m. Wednesday, followed by the regular monthly public meeting at 6 p.m. at the Plaza del Cavalier Banquet Room, 250 San Simeon Ave., San Simeon.
The services district was paying Schultz a flat fee of $1,800 per month, or $21,600 a year. Schultz’s Los Gatos base salary is $185,000, up from the $151,589 in base pay he received from Morro Bay.
