The ride from Morro Bay High School to Piedras Blancas and back again starts at 7 a.m. Riders are instructed to ride safely, observe traffic laws, to share the road with cars and to respect local residents, a club spokesman said.
Participants will ride on Highway 1, Old Creek Road and Highway 46 between Vineyard Drive and Highway 1. One northbound lane of Highway 1 will be closed at the Toro Creek Bridge in Cayucos.
All riders should be off the roads by 5 p.m.
The lighthouse ride is one of the club’s two annual fundraising events. Proceeds go to high school and college scholarships for local students and to support local nonprofit organizations. This year the club is donating more than $74,000 to San Luis Obispo county schools and charities.
Larry Rutter, a club spokesman, asks for motorists’ patience during the ride. The bike club is paying to have additional CHP units and Morro Bay Police officers patrol the route.
