Members of the North Coast Advisory Council continued their review of a the proposed Christmas Market on the grounds of the Cambria Pines Lodge with a site visit Thursday, Aug. 29.
The council discussed the proposal at some length during their Aug. 21 meeting, but no vote was scheduled or taken.
County planners allowed the market to be held last year while discussions continued on what the ultimate plan should include, according to architect Gary Swauger, who is working with lodge owner Dirk Winter and market manager George Marschall.
The market plan still is a moving target. For instance, last year’s market had
18 temporary sheds. The permit application for the revised market plan listed up to 50.

Swauger said at the meeting that the most recent revision for 2013 showed
29 temporary booths, with up to 48 in subsequent years. All plans would have three permanent booths.
Parking, too, is being reworked, and council members said also among their related major concerns were safety and traffic control.
Before visiting the lodge, members of the advisory council’s Land Use Committee will also do a site visit at Centrally Grown (a total remodel of the Hamlet Restaurant on Exotic Gardens Drive).
The committee will deliver a report Sept. 18 to the full council, which is scheduled to review both projects and consider whether to recommend them.
Meanwhile, the council still needs applicants for alternate seats in Areas 4 (East of Main Street and rural lands), 6 (Marine Terrace) and 7 (Top of the World/mid-Lodge Hill), and a Latina/Latino alternate representative.
Carolyn Shepherd, a retired Navy public relations specialist, has applied for the Area 4 alternate seat.

The volunteer council, which is advisory only, recommends actions to Supervisor Bruce Gibson and all other county agencies and departments.
