UPDATE, 3:40 p.m. Saturday: A fire believed to have started in a utility closet at a motel on Moonstone Beach Drive in Cambria Saturday caused roughly $50,000 to $100,000 in damage but no injuries, Cambria Fire Department Chief Mark Miller said.
Multiple 911 calls came in when smoke began pouring out of a skylight at the motel at about 2 p.m.
The fire had not, as first feared, gone into the attic area and about 15 firefighters from Cambria, Cal Fire, Hearst Castle and Cayucos were able to douse the flames within 10 minutes, Miller said.
Moonstone Beach Drive was closed to through traffic in the 6700 block while fire and ambulance equipment was at the scene.
The cause remains under investigation, Miller said, but is not believed suspicious.
