Cambria Community Services District directors are due to consider authorizing fees for people who want to use parts of Fiscalini Ranch Preserve for special events. The action could come at a meeting set to start at 12:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 28, at the Veterans Memorial Building, 1000 Main St.
The fee wouldn’t be for renting the scenic, ocean-front, forested open space. Friends of the Fiscalini Ranch, which holds a conservation easement over the property, is forbidden to charge for use of the preserve.
Instead, the proposed application costs are designed to compensate the district for time staff members spend processing applications and providing services.
New: Live streaming
Never miss a local story.
Cambrians who can’t attend the monthly or special CCSD meetings will have another option: They’ll be able to watch it live through video streaming.
District meetings have long been available on four or more scheduled cablecasts a month on Charter Channel 21, and archived audio-only versions can be accessed through www.slo-span.org.
But it’s been impossible to watch the meeting as it was happening, and if someone was interested in a particular item later, there was no way to speed past the rest of the session.
Responding to a reporter’s inquiry, Mike Thompson, president of the Cambria Community Services District, initiated the option that’s to be available starting Thursday, Feb. 28.
As Thompson explained in an email, meeting video will be “available via live stream through the www.slospan.org link on our website” at www.cambriacsd.org.
Citizens who “cannot attend the meetings, forget to turn on Channel 21 during the four telecasts, or who do not have cable television will now be able to view the Board’s deliberations live. The meetings will also be archived and indexed, which would allow for search by item, motion and vote........no more having to sit through a six-hour tape to locate one particular agenda item.”
