closeA man found dead in a wrecked car near Highway 41 between Creston and Shandon last week has been identified.
Stanley Wisniewski, 59, of Paso Robles was driving a 1958 Mercedes sedan south on the highway at an unknown speed just north of Yosemite Place sometime between 7 p.m. Oct. 15 and 10:25 a.m. Oct. 16 when he failed to negotiate a sharp left turn, according to the CHP.
Wisniewski overcorrected to the left, crossed both lanes and ascended up a dirt embankment for a short distance, officers said. The vehicle then descended the embankment, crossed both lanes again and went down 150 feet over the other side of the highway until the front end crashed into a drainage gulley.
A Caltrans worker noticed the vehicle around 10:25 a.m. Oct. 16, according to the CHP. When County/Cal Fire and San Luis Ambulance officials arrived at the scene, they discovered Wisniewski was already dead.
