Stephanie Brown Trafton finished 12th today in the women’s discus final at the world track and field championships in Berlin.
Trafton, an Arroyo Grande High and Cal Poly graduate, had the best throw in the world this season — 217 feet, 3 inches — entering the meet.
But the reigning Olympic gold medalist struggled throughout the world championships. On Wednesday, she qualified 11th out of 12th qualifiers and struggled again Friday with a best of 192-0.
Australia’s Dani Samuels won with a personal-record throw of 214-8. Cuba’s Yarelis Barrios (214-4) and Romania’s Nicoleta Grasu (213-11) finished second and third, respectively.

- Don't use all capital letters. That's akin to yelling and not appreciated by the audience.
