Police have arrested a local man accused of beating a 65-year-old man at the Maxine Lewis Memorial Shelter for the homeless on Friday afternoon.
Investigators found that Ronald Wayne Perkins, 43, repeatedly kicked Clifford Anderson in the head and face, according to a report by San Luis Obispo police Sgt. Sean Gillham released on Sunday.
When emergency responders arrived at the Orcutt Road shelter after 3:50 p.m., they found that several bystanders came to Anderson’s aid, police said.
One of them punched Perkins in the head, ending the assault against Anderson, according to police.
Anderson was treated for multiple contusions and abrasions, including a skull fracture, at an unidentified local hospital and then released, police said.
Perkins was also hospitalized because of his injuries, but then was released and sent to County Jail, where he is being held on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon and elder abuse, police said.
He is being held without bail because he is on supervised state parole, according to police.
The allegation of assault with a deadly weapon stems from Perkins’ reported kick to Anderson’s head could have caused great bodily injury, according to Gillham’s report.
