Sheriff’s deputies responded to the Arroyo Grande home of world-renowned illusionists Charlotte and Jonathan Pendragon earlier today on a report of shots fired.

A woman called 911 at 10:49 a.m. to report the incident as it was occurring in the 200 block of Country Hills Lane, according to Sheriff's spokesman Rob Bryn. The woman said her husband had armed himself with a handgun and fired a shot during an argument.

At the advice of 911 operators, the woman ran into the yard to avoid a possible armed confrontation inside, according to Bryn.

Claude Douglas Yarbrough, the real name of Jonathan Pendragon, surrendered without incident, according to Bryn. He was not armed when deputies, who had their guns drawn, arrested him on the street in front of the home.

The handgun believed to have been used during the incident was found inside the home, and was taken, along with four other handguns, a shotgun and a rifle, for safekeeping by deputies.

Yarbrough, 55, was booked into County Jail on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon, spousal abuse, terrorist threats and firing a weapon in an inhabited dwelling.

Billed as "The First Couple of Magic," the Pendragons have gained international renown for innovative illusions that combine art and athletic prowess with a theatrical flair. They have performed often at the Clark Center for the Performing Arts in Arroyo Grande.
