One person is reported dead after a kayak capsized off Cambria this afternoon, Sheriff¹s Department officials said.
A witness reported seeing two people in a kayak off Sherwood Drive in Cambria about 3 p.m., Sheriff's spokesman Rob Bryn said. One body was reportedly on the beach and Coast Guard crews are searching for a possible second person.
Additional details on the incident were not available.
ORIGINAL STORY:
Two kayakers are believed missing off the coast of Cambria and a search is underway, after witnesses reported to officials that the two seemed to be in distress before their kayak overturned.
Cal Fire Battalion Chief Andy Anderson and a spokeswoman for his department both said that his department and the Cambria Fire District are responding to the scene near Sherwood Drive and Drake Street.
Multiple calls were made about an overturned double kayak in the area, Anderson said.
“There was a report of a kayak 300 to 400 yards off shore flipped upside down,” he said. “Another kayaker reported a kayaker in distress and the boat flipped upside down.”
