Bay Area youngsters, parents mourn death of girl hurt swimming at Pismo Beach
She died four days later after nearly drowning on June 19, a Contra Costa County newspaper reports

closeYoungsters and parents gathered at a Bay Area school last week to mourn the death of a middle-schooler who was injured while swimming in the ocean at Pismo Beach, the Contra Costa Times reported.
Megan McDonough, 12, of Brentwood, was playing in the water on June 19 when she began drowning, the newspaper reported.
Three lifeguards, along with a couple of off-duty sheriff’s deputies and a surfer helped pull her out of the water and gave her CPR, Mike Lack, supervising ranger with the Oceano Dunes Off Highway Recreation Area — which oversees Pismo State Beach, told the Times.
She was taken to a local hospital, then flown by helicopter Kaiser Permanente’s Oakland Medical Center, where she died four days later, the newspaper reported.
Youngsters gathered at Edna Hill Middle School, where McDonough attended, to meet with counselors and make cards for her family, according to the Times.
