Arroyo Grande High senior Austin Field finished second in the boys shot put today at the CIF State Track and Field Championships at Buchanan High in Clovis.

Field's best throw of the day was 61 feet, 5 1/2 inches. Frontier's Matt Darr, who earlier won the discus today, threw 62-1 1/4 for the win. No one else surpassed 60 feet.

Field took the lead when he threw 61-5 1/2 on his first throw. Darr responded by taking the lead on his second throw with his 62-1 1/4 effort. Field fouled on four of his next five throws, and his one legal throw in that group measured 60-3 1/4.

Field had the top mark in the state entering the meet, having thrown 62-4 3/4 at the CIF-Southern Section finals May 23. He also had the top throw in Friday's preliminaries, throwing 61-0 1/2.

Still to come tonight is Mission Prep senior Jordan Hasay, who looks to close out her illustrious career with a fourth consecutive title in the 3,200. Her race is scheduled to begin at 8:46.

Check back to sanluisobispo.com later tonight to see how Hasay fared in her race.
