The San Luis Obispo County League of Women Voters’ board of directors announced this week its support of a proposed mental hospital and related assisted living memory care facility for seniors in Templeton.
“Our committee looked into the current state of mental health care in our county and the critical needs that are going unmet,” said Sharon Winslow, chair of the league committee that studied the proposal. “We believe that this facility is appropriately placed and that it will greatly benefit many in our county who need these short-term services and their families.”
The hospital would be a two-story secure facility to treat a variety of mental conditions such as depression, anxiety disorder, suicidal thoughts, schizophrenia, post-traumatic stress and other issues in children and adults during an seven- to 10-day stay.
The proposal, which has received both support and criticism from the public, will go before the San Luis Obispo County Planning Commission this summer.
