A woman found unconscious outside a burning home in Atascadero early Friday died after being taken to a local hospital.
The woman, who was not identified, was found unresponsive outside the burning home in the 4500 block of Rosita Avenue at about 4:34 a.m., Atascadero Fire Capt. Bill White said. She was taken to Twin Cities Community Hospital in Templeton, where she died.
Firefighters from Cal Fire and the Atascadero, Paso Robles and Templeton fire departments all responded to the scene of the fire. The first responders focused on assisting the woman, who was described as elderly, and keeping the fire from spreading beyond the house.
Additional firefighters arrived and the blaze was controlled in about 40 minutes. The fire appeared to originate in the living room but is still under investigation, White said.
Damage to the house and contents is estimated at $375,000.
