A 29-year-old woman was killed Thursday night when the motorcycle she was a passenger on collided with a pickup truck on Highway 227 in San Luis Obispo.
The California Highway Patrol says Molly Bear and Donald E. McKee III, 47, both of Pismo Beach, were riding a 2007 Harley-Davidson on the highway near Biddle Ranch Road at about 8:27 p.m. when the front of their motorcycle collided with the front of a white Ford Ranger pickup that was backing into the southbound lane from the shoulder.
According to the CHP, the truck had just completed a U-turn from the northbound lane, and its driver failed to observe the motorcycle approaching as the car backed up.
Bear and McKee were ejected from the motorcycle onto the right shoulder of the highway, according to the CHP.
Both were taken to Sierra Vista Regional Medical Center, where Bear was pronounced dead.
Hospital spokesperson Ron Yukelson said McKee was listed in "fair" condition as of Friday morning.
The driver of the truck, Maria F. Salgado, 55, of San Luis Obispo was not injured in the collision.
The CHP is currently investigating the accident.
