In honor of National Police Week — May 10 through 16 — local law enforcement agencies are holding events to honor public safety personnel.
On Thursday, May 14, the San Luis Obispo County Criminal Justice Administrators Association will host a memorial service to honor officers who have died in the line of duty. The event will include a caravan of law enforcement vehicles from throughout the county, beginning at 9 a.m. at the San Luis Obispo County Sheriff’s Office’s Templeton patrol station, 356 N. Main Street.
The parade will roll down Highway 101, onto Highway 41, and congregate at the Atascadero Veterans’ Memorial at 9029 Morro Road. A nondenominational ceremony there will include a reading of the names of peace officers who have died in the line of duty in California since May 2014.
That night, beginning at 6 p.m., the San Luis Obispo Farmers Market will host Law Enforcement Night, which will feature displays of emergency tactical equipment and police service dogs.
Nationally, May 15 is designated as National Peace Officers Memorial Day, and in accordance with federal law, all U.S. flags at city and government buildings will be lowered to half-staff.
