The city of Morro Bay plans to break ground Wednesday, Feb. 11, on the construction of its Morro Creek Multi-Use Trail and Bridge, a long-anticipated extension of the Morro Bay Harborwalk.
The project will provide a pathway for bicyclists and pedestrians that will connect the waterfront area to north Morro Bay.
The bridge will be a pre-fabricated steel structure, wide enough for access for emergency vehicles — but it will not be open to non-emergency vehicles. Additional features will include viewing areas, stone seat walls and bicycle parking.
The project was funded by the National Scenic Byways Program, Federal Highway Transportation Enhancement Funds, the SLOCOG Regional Transportation Improvement Program, as well as city of Morro Bay local funds. RRM Design of San Luis Obispo designed the project and coordinated the permitting.
The groundbreaking will take place at 4:30 p.m. at 1270 Embarcadero.
