Hospice San Luis Obispo County is looking for participants for a six-week training course for new hospice volunteers beginning in February.
The training will be held from 1 to 5 p.m. every Friday from Feb. 20 to March 27 at New Life Community Church, 990 James Way in Pismo Beach. A $30 fee covers the course training manual.
The program is the primary training requirement for volunteering in the hospice’s In-Home Respite, Hospital Vigil and Pet Programs but is also open to anyone interested in learning about hospice concepts in caring for those with a terminal or life-threatening illness.
The training includes communication skills; hospice history and philosophy; cultural and spiritual issues and increasing quality of life.
Never miss a local story.
Hospice San Luis Obispo County is a nonprofit agency. Volunteers must be able to commit three to four hours per week for up to six months. Bilingual volunteers are encouraged to participate.
