The entire six-member board of directors of Morro Bay’s nonprofit Fourth of July organizing team is stepping down and seeking a new volunteer group to coordinate the event.
The Morro Bay 4th Inc. board, led by President Dan Podesta, has been running the program for several years. The board collectively put out a statement saying it’s time for a change.
“It’s time for another group of communityminded individuals to step up and take on this wonderful, rewarding event,” they wrote.
The holiday event includes live music, children’s activities, a one-mile skateboard race and a bike parade.
Never miss a local story.
Morro Bay 4th Inc. took over the city’s Fourth of July event five years ago from the Morro Bay Chamber of Commerce. The nonprofit’s goals were bringing the community together to celebrate the holiday and creating an economic boost for local tourism.
