A groundbreaking ceremony was held last week for a new park-and-ride lot in Nipomo.
The Olde Towne Nipomo Park and Ride Lot at West Tefft and Carrillo streets will provide 19 parking spaces, including one space accessible to those with disabilities, as well as sidewalks, curb ramps and storm water upgrades.
Work began this week and is expected to last about four weeks, according to the Nipomo Chamber of Commerce.
The $133,006 construction contract was awarded to CalPortland Construction of Santa Maria. Funding was provided by the San Luis Obispo Council of Government’s regional state highway account.
The project was a cooperative effort between the Olde Towne Nipomo Association, the San Luis Obispo County District 4 supervisor’s office, county public works, county general services, the council of governments and others.
Former Supervisor Paul Teixeira, who died while in office in June 2013, was particularly interested in the project, according to a news release.
