Free tax assistance for lower-income residents is available through Cal Poly starting Jan. 31.
Nearly 100 Cal Poly students will prepare tax returns as part of Cal Poly’s Orfalea College of Business program for individuals and families with annual incomes of less than $53,000. Cal Poly faculty, and volunteer CPAs, review and file the returns.
The service runs from 10:30 to 2 p.m. on Saturdays from Jan. 31 through March 14 on the third floor of the Cal Poly Business Building (No. 3). Parking is free. Students use forms such as 1040, 1040A, 1040EZ, 540, 540A, 540EZ and supporting documents.
No appointments are needed, and service will be first-come, first-serve.
VITA clinics also are offered at Grover Beach’s Business & Career OneStop of Five Cities at 1800 E. Grand Ave. (open Saturdays from Jan. 31 through April 4) and Santa Maria’s Allan Hancock College’s Community Education Center at 800 S. College Drive (open Saturdays from Jan. 31-April 4; closed Feb. 15 and Feb. 22). For an appointment, call 922-0329 ext. 103.
