A transgender artist and educator will perform at Cal Poly’s Chumash Auditorium on Jan. 21.
Rebecca Kling will give a performance titled “Trans Form: Exploring Rebecca Kling’s Life as a Transgender Woman” from 5 to 7 p.m. The event is free and open to the public.
In the solo show, Kling focuses on ideas relating to “gender and identity through personal narrative, storytelling, humor and movement to deliver entertainment with purpose,” according to Cal Poly officials.
The story guides the viewer through her childhood, adolescence and adulthood as a transgender woman.
Kling has produced workshops and performances at schools and theater festivals nationwide and won several awards.
Her awards include honors from the 2014 Guild Literary Complex’s “25 Writers to Watch” and the 2013 inaugural Trans 100 List awards, celebrating excellence in the transgender community, according to Cal Poly.
