Cal Poly’s coed chemistry fraternity, Alpha Chi Sigma, received the T. Dale Stewart Award, given to the fraternity’s best chapter nationwide for 2012-14.
Given every two years, the honor is based on the number of events the chapter participates in and how committed the chapter is to them.
The Alpha Chi Sigma students host or help with activities such as providing chemistry tutoring on campus, assisting Boy Scouts in earning their merit badges, organizing community science nights and coordinating chemistry labs and experiments at local high schools.
The fraternity students also participate in a BYOP (bring your own pumpkin) party every Halloween. The festivities involve carving and blowing up the pumpkins.
Never miss a local story.
The chapter also networks with chemistry professionals, helping to build ties to job, internship and research opportunities.
