A 21-year-old Oceano man was killed early Tuesday when his vehicle ran off the road and hit a tree in rural Arroyo Grande in a suspected drunken-driving incident.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the man was driving south on Los Berros Road just south of Quailwood Lane at a high rate of speed around 3:52 a.m. He failed to negotiate a curve in the roadway, and his 2015 Nissan crossed the double-yellow line, continued across the northbound lane and drove off the east side of the road, where it hit a tree head-on, the CHP said in a news release.
The man, who is not being identified pending notification of next of kin, suffered fatal injuries. He was not wearing a seatbelt, according to the CHP.
Alcohol is suspected to be a factor in the crash, the CHP said.
