Correction: An earlier version of this column gave the incorrect day for San Miguel's downtown landscape maintenance. It's scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 13.
Saturday morning is volunteer gardening day at Lillian Larsen School. Members of the community who enjoy gardening are invited to help. Please bring gloves, tools and water to drink.
At the school, 1601 L St., the Community Garden Celebration and Workday from 8:30 to 11 a.m. will be followed by a potluck lunch for those who bring a dish to share. For information call Christina Wilkinson at 467-3216, ext. 124. Elementary students must be accompanied by a parent or older sibling.
Downtown landscape maintenance will be from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 13. Volunteers should meet at The Coffee Station or look for workers wearing yellow vests.
Christmas parade planning
On Tuesday, the Christmas Parade Committee will meet at The Coffee Station at 10 a.m. to begin planning the event. The group welcomes new ideas.
Where's the Carpenter Shop
The Carpenter Shop has moved from the old bank building at 12th and Mission streets to the old mill at the north end of town, near 19th Street. Master carpenter Rick Decatur is delighted with his spacious new location. He is well known for his meticulous restoration of antiques as well as for cabinetry and other woodworking skills.
If his last name sounds familiar to old-timers, they may remember his uncle, George Decatur, who taught at Paso Robles High School on 24th and Spring streets in the 1950s and '60s.
Mission San Miguel Fiesta will take place Sunday, Sept. 21, from noon to 3 p.m. at Mission San Miguel Mission.
Caledonia Days will be Saturday, Sept. 27, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Rios-Adobe Caledonia.
