A Paso Robles man died after a head-on crash Friday night near Coalinga, California Highway Patrol officials said.
The man, who has not been identified, was driving a 1994 Mazda south on Highway 33 when he drifted off the roadway to the right and then swerved back onto the road.
Officials say the quick turn caused the man to veer across the southbound lane into oncoming traffic and hit a 2007 Toyota with five passengers from Paso Robles that was headed north.
The Toyota's driver Scott Martini, 33, had minor injuries. Passengers Roselle Martini, 32, and three children, ages 6, 7 and 13, had minor to moderate injuries. They were all taken by ambulance to Hanford Medical Center for treatment.
The Mazda driver was airlifted to Community Regional Medical Center in Fresno, where he later died from his injuries.
