The San Luis Obispo Regional SWAT team and San Luis Obispo firefighters conducted a joint “active shooter” training exercise with teachers and staff at San Luis Obispo High School on Wednesday afternoon.
The training, in which two SWAT team members played the roles of gunmen, was designed to train first responders and school staff on how to react in a school shooting scenario.
Participating members of law enforcement used realistic devices, including simulated explosives and gunfire, and the school’s fire alarm was activated and allowed to run for approximately 15 minutes to add to the realism.
Teachers and staff members from San Luis Obispo High School and Laguna Middle School were trained to safely evacuate students through a coordinated escape plan.
Earlier this week, the San Luis Obispo Police Department warned residents of the realistic drill to avoid any concern.
