The Paso Robles Police Department will mark the beginning of the school year by deploying officers to strictly enforce school zone traffic laws beginning Wednesday.
The department said in a news release Monday that the new school year always brings traffic congestion in school zones and surrounding areas.
Officers will be checking for seat belt violations, distracted driving and cell phone use, flashing school bus light violations, speed violations and parking violations. Officers will also be monitoring pedestrian and bicycle traffic.
Officers will be handing out citations and issuing warnings depending on the severity of the offense.
Never miss a local story.
The department did not specify how long the special enforcement would remain in effect.
