UPDATE 3 p.m.: The 13-year-old Atascadero boy missing since Monday morning was located Thursday afternoon by officials and is being reunited with his grandparents.
Atascadero Cmdr. Joe Allen said that Jeremiah Austin Valdez had been located at a local junior high school after making a number of posts to his Facebook account. Allen said Valdez also made contact with someone at the school, who also contacted authorities.
As of Thursday afternoon, Valdez remained at the Atascadero police station and officers were meeting with his grandparents.
It was not immediately clear where the juvenile had been since Monday.
Original story: Atascadero police are searching for a missing 13-year-old boy considered “at-risk” because he is believed to be without his medication.
Jeremiah Austin Valdez of Atascadero is described as a Hispanic male with short brown hair and brown eyes. He is 5 feet 5 inches tall and weighs 105 pounds. He was last seen wearing a black shirt with “racing numbers” on it, blue jeans and black shoes.
At approximately 4:45 a.m. Monday morning, officers were dispatched to the 5700 block of Santa Cruz Road for a report of a missing juvenile. They soon determined that Valdez may have run away from home. He has not returned nor made contact since.
Valdez is considered “at risk” because of his age and the fact that he takes medication for depression. However, it is not believed the boy is suicidal.
Investigators believe he is possibly heading to the Hanford area, where his mother lives. According to the Atascadero Police Department, Valdez has been unhappy with his current living environment.
The Atascadero Police Department is asking anyone with information regarding the whereabouts of Valdez to contact the department at 461-5051.
