Seventeen World War II veterans will travel from San Luis Obispo to Washington, D.C., on Tuesday for a two-day tour of the city, including a visit to the national World War II Memorial.
The trip was the first organized solely by Honor Flight Central Coast, which aims to fund trips for veterans to memorials honoring their service.
The flight, meals, lodgings and transportation for the group were paid for through the organization by donations from local individuals, private organizations and businesses.
The group of veterans will leave from the San Luis Obispo airport at 6:30 a.m. Members from the local American Legion Posts, Veterans of Foreign Wars Posts, Vietnam Veterans of America and Patriot Guard Riders will be at the sendoff.
The public is invited to attend.
