For the first time in over 20 years, the San Luis Obispo Police Department has a new reserve officer.
Dr. Rushdi Cader, who currently serves as an emergency room physician at Sierra Vista Regional Medical Center in San Luis Obispo and Twin Cities Community Hospital in Templeton, was officially hired as an officer Tuesday morning.
Cader has served as the medical director for the San Luis Obispo Regional SWAT Team for five years, teaching tactical medicine to the local team and teams across the state. He will serve as a Level III reserve officer and will work when available during SWAT training and operations.
The position is voluntary and does not include a salary.
