The city of San Luis Obispo will offer a Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) training course in May as part of a national PreparAthon campaign aiming to prepare communities for natural disasters and other emergencies.
The CERT course will consist of 20 hours of training for a major disaster. It will include lessons on basic firefighting skills, medical skills, hazardous materials awareness, terrorism awareness and light search-and-rescue techniques.
The course is split into five classes, taking place on May 7, 14, 21 and 28 from 5:30 to 9:30 p.m. and May 31 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
The classes will take place at Fire Station No. 1, at 2160 Santa Barbara Ave. in San Luis Obispo.
The course has a 30-student limit and costs $60 for residents and $85 for nonresidents.
