Next week is National Library Week, and all San Luis Obispo County libraries will accept nonperishable food items in lieu of up to $1 in late fines or hold fees. The collected food will be donated to the Food Bank Coalition of San Luis Obispo County. Food for Fines does not apply to fees for lost or damaged library materials .
The San Miguel Library is next to the baseball diamond on 13th Street.
The library is open Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday afternoons.
The San Miguel Chamber of Commerce is expanding efforts to beautify the downtown.
Landscaping and sidewalks were installed by the county using funding from a grant, but the community is responsible for maintenance and upkeep.
To raise funds, the chamber has created the Downtown Landscape Maintenance and Bench Fund and an Adopt a Bench fund. Benches may be adopted by individuals or businesses and dedicated as they wish.
If you would like to be part of the effort, talk to Mike Sanders at the Mercantile or email him at MichaelJSanders9@gmail.com, or email 2011SMRC@gmail.com.
Recently, the San Miguel Garbage Co. provided garbage cans for pedestrians. The company’s help is greatly appreciated.
Notice to San Miguel businesses and organizations: If you would like your business or organization to be included in a Welcome to San Miguel packet that will be given to new residents, please contact Laverne at 2011SMRC@gmail.com .
