Members of the San Luis Obispo Friends of the Library are busy sorting books in preparation for their upcoming 35th Annual Book Sale, the organization’s largest fundraising event.
The sale will be March 6 through 8 at the Veterans Memorial Building, 801 Grand Ave. in San Luis Obispo.
Usually the sale offers about 15,000 to 20,000 books and 5,000 to 10,000 CDs, DVDs and tapes. This year’s event will offer a higher than normal number of children’s books, according to a news release from event organizers.
Books are typically priced at $1 per inch, and CDs and DVDs are $1 each. As members sort the books, they put aside those with historical or topical value and sell them in a special section at the book sale.
Never miss a local story.
Last year’s book sale brought in about $16,000, which is nearly half the support the group provides to the San Luis Obispo library and community projects.
The sale is open only to members on March 6 from 6 to 9 p.m. (memberships will be sold at the door); it is open to the public from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. March 7 and from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. March 8.
