A residential structure fire destroyed a condominium Friday afternoon in Grover Beach, displacing a local family and killing two pets.
Five Cities Fire Authority officials arrived at the home on the 200 block of 6th Street to find the building “fully involved,” according to a Five Cities incident report.
A family of four was barely able to evacuate before flames engulfed the structure. A cat and a Labrador retriever apparently died in the fire, according to the report.
The Red Cross has offered support to the family who were outside surrounded by other family members and friends Friday evening.
Five Cities Fire investigators are expected to remain on scene until about midnight to evaluate evidence to determine a possible cause.
To fight the blaze, an aerial truck lifted firefighters onto the roof in order to cut ventilation holes and allow heat to dissipate. Two Five Cites fire engines companies, one aerial truck crew and a total of 19 firefighters worked the fire, which was contained by 5 p.m.
