Work to transform an empty office building into a larger, more technology-focused Atascadero library was well underway Wednesday.
Construction crews recently poured the slab for the first floor, and “a lot of the framing is in upstairs,” said Friends of the Atascadero Library vice president Eileen O’Grady.
The work will transform the interior of a 22,000-square-foot building into the new home of the Atascadero Martin Polin Library as well as San Luis Obispo County offices for a North County Services Center.
The library portion will be double the size of the current facility on Morro Road and will add areas for youth programs and more computers with public Internet access.
The library is due to open in the spring.
