PathPoint, a nonprofit organization that provides training and services to support adults with disabilities to live and work in the community, partnered with local businesses Wednesday to offer hands-on experience for individuals.
The effort, part of Disability Mentoring Day, partnered clients with Sears and Farm Supply.
Jeremy Martinez of Oceano who is enrolled in PathPoint’s supported employment program, spent the day working at Sears in the warehouse learning how to unload trucks alongside employees, putting new merchandise on racks and other tasks.
“Jeremy has always thought this would be something he would like but never had the opportunity to actually do the job,” said Babs Furia, an employment specialist with PathPoint. On Wednesday, he got the chance to try it out and see whether it was something he would like to pursue.
