Parents may pick up their children at Shandon Elementary and Shandon High School, which have been on lockdown since 2 p.m. because of a nearby investigation by the San Luis Obispo County Sheriff’s Office.
The Sheriff’s Office got a call at about 12:30 p.m. of suspicious activity at a vacant house in the 800 block of Mesa Grande Drive in Shandon, said sheriff’s spokesman Tony Cipolla. Initial reports were that two people may have been inside, he said. One person has been detained, and deputies still have the house surrounded and are attempting to determine if anyone else is inside, he said. A California Highway Patrol helicopter is assisting deputies by scanning the area from the sky.
Meanwhile, parents may pick up their children from school at the usual time, Cipolla said.
“Parents are free to pick up their children. They weren’t in any danger, we just put the schools on lockdown as a precaution,” he said.
